A Wedding In Burgundy
/On August 6th we had the honour of hosting Lauren and Adam Richardson for their wedding at The Hungry Cyclist Lodge.
Arriving from all over the world, seventy of the bride and groom's family and friends, came to Auxey-Duresses to celebrate Adam and Lauren’s special day in the heart of Burgundy wine country.
Working with a dedicated team of friends and local producers, it was a privilege to turn The Hungry Cyclist Lodge into a wedding venue for the first time and judging by the kind words of our guests and the gallery of images below the day was a huge success.
Lauren's family rented The Hungry Cyclist Lodge for the week prior to the wedding, giving them ample time to cycle, wine taste, relax and enjoy the best of Burgundy before the big day.
Starting the day with a reception on the lawn, guests enjoyed chilled glasses of Cremant de Bourgogne, from domain Parigot, along with a home-made selection of bruschetta and flat breads prepared in our 18th century bread oven.
After sharing in a romantic ceremony in the shade of the cherry tree, the party then moved to a purpose built al-fresco dining area surrounded by oak trees, the Premier Cru vineyards of Auxey-Duresses and ancient dry-stone walls. Dining at tables adorned with white linen, bouquets of flowers from the garden and candle light, everyone enjoyed a sumptuous four-course Burgundian feast as the sunset over the surrounding vineyards.
Warm leek and goats cheese tarts from the bakery in Meursault, were paired with a refreshing local Chardonnay. BBQ ribs of Charolais beef and roast garden-vegetables from our bread oven, were paired with a Santenay Clos de Genet from Domain Jensiaum. Followed by a classic selection of Burgundian cheeses and apple tarts, another treat from the four a pain.
As darkness fell, the volume went up and guests took to the dance floor until the early hours before the bride and groom drove away from the celebrations, through a sparkler-lit avenue of friends and family in a classic Citroen 2CV. The perfect end to a perfect day.
