Ten Bob Britain

Another year and I'm sad to report another no score draw on Valentines day. Not even a card from my mum landed on the door mat, but while I was busy sulking in bed one brave man was taking to the road on an epic round Britain bike challenge.

On Saturday Charlie and his aptly named bright-red steed Cupid, set off on a cycle tour of Britain living on ten pounds a day. Quite a big budget I hear you say, and certainly in some far-off lands that would allow a cyclist to live like a king, but is it possible to travel on that budget here in the UK? Lets not forget cyclists get hungry, it can get cold and a drink always goes down well at the end of the day…

I'll be keeping an eye on this great little trip and if he needs a bed here in Tooting, the door is open. To follow Charlie's budget bike ride online, or if your'e feeling brave invite him to stay, take a look at his poetic little blog Ten Bob Britain.

Good Luck!

  1. As Charlie and Hungry are post decimalisation people we can forgive the slightly inaccurate “ten bob” title Pre-decimal old gits like myself would know that a “bob” was the nickname for a “shilling” or 5p in decimal money. So, “ten bob” is 50p. “50p Britain” would indeed be a challenge.
Totally irrelevant and totally pedantic of course, and in no way detracts from Charlie’s project.
Good luck, Charlie. Enjoy yourself and looking forward to reading your blog.

  2. Thanks WW – I am sure i washed so many cars on ‘Bob a Job’ for a pounds as a kid I need to return some cash!
