Rowing The Atlantic Video by Al Humphreys

The image above this post is my favourite painting (at the moment). It lives as pixels on my desktop but the the original The Fog Warning by Winslow Homer hangs in a gallery of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Boston. In January this year I was lucky enough to stand in front of it for half an hour and ponder its essence of hope, menace, dedication, hard work and simplicity.

Captivated by the life  and mind of the man pulling home his catch, I also sparred a short, envious thought for my ‘partner in foodAl Humphrey’s. Weeks before we had been enjoying a lazy Lebanese lunch in Tooting as part of Eating London A to Z and now Al was somewhere in the Atlantic rowing a boat not disimilar to this. Now home, Al has shared his transatlantic experience with this evocative video.
