Instead of taking the Andean range that crests the west coast of South America I decided instead to cross the Andes in Ecuador and then follow the Amazon down stream to the mouth of the mighty river in Northern Brazil. Instead of freezing cold nights in my tent and never ending mountain climbs I would swing in my hammock on the beaches of Brazil. Following the coast of Brazil south from Belem to Rio was an amazing adventure. I barley sore another cycle tourist. I slept on the beach and swam every day.
