Love Food – Hate Waste

Sadley in last weekends press, it was reported that fast-food chains such as McDonalds, KFC and Subway were booming and seeing such an increase in demand that they were planning to expand with hundreds of new stores. How can this be? Only a few years ago the 'death knell' was sounding for these greedy peddlers of nutrition-less junk.

No doubt the economic downturn is one reason for this rise in demand for fast food, but I belive it also comes down to a lack of life skills. As a nation our knowledge of ingredients and how to prepare them into nutritiouse meals for our family is too limited and is leading to an increase in consumption of fast food, ready-meals and waste.

In the UK we through away a third of the food we buy and every two hours we create enough waste to fill the Albert Hall twice! This cant go on and so I was over joyed to find this website this morning Love Food – Hate Waste

Albert hall

A ‘Waste Not Want Not’ website providing handy tips, advice and recipes for leftovers to help everyone waste less food.

Reducing food waste is a major issue and not just about good food going to waste; wasting food costs the average family £420 a year and has serious environmental implications too. If we all stop wasting food that could have been eaten, the CO2 impact would be the equivalent of taking 1 in 5 cars off the road.
So have a look at Love Food Hate Waste, get cooking and make a difference!

  1. I saw that too. Amazing isn’t it? And given the relative cost of eating fast food I find it staggering. *sigh*. All we can do is keep banging our drums and hope that someone hears.

  2. That was so disgusting fact about the food. We must conserve it and reduce food waste because there are million of people whose stomach is starving. We should stop wasting food.

every one says about food wastage but no one really cares abt it until they experience the hungry. food wastage shuld be considered as a crime and there should be rules to control the utilisation of the food.wen the rich people celebrate theirr events with 7 or 12 course meals we shud rembr that it increases the demand for the food. if you r rich u can buy food even it costs billio dollars but you shud rembr that u might be taking food from poor peoples plate to enjoy your events.governments shud regulate the events in their country so that we can control the increased rate for food…………plz
