Cycling Poems
I have just had the good fortune to stumble into a small blog dedicated to bicyclepoetry.
The Two Wheeled Good (God?)
The Two-Wheeled Good (God?)
hardly stopped by very much
through rain snow and heat and sleet
driven home by pedalled feet
waterproof and wind resistant
long spun limbs turn on insistent
that no bus, train or car
or suited warming post-five bar
shall deviate them from their route
as dusk stalks day-glow on their shoot
With bike lights lit like Viking torches
to guide them soon-wet porches
dashing back in one good stint
all fuelled by smugness for their
carbon foot prints

Ode to the Canyon Ride
Canyon hills all golden glow,
Coyotes laughing, dears dashing,
Pedals turning, my heart yearning,
Where shall I go?
Steep broken road, I am slow,
My pulse is beating, soul freeing,
Troubles fading, fears are leaving,
So now I know.
At the crest, I catch my breath.
Stalling slightly, leaning lightly,
Then departing, fast descending,
This hill has depth!
Wheels beneath me never give.
Motion thrills me, wind instills me,
Road so curving, ride so soothing,
Out here I live.
Oops…the one above has errors and I tweaked it cause I’m a geek (sorry, it was early when I wrote it). Here is the correct version:
Ode to the Canyon Ride
Canyon hills all golden glow,
Coyotes laughing, deer dashing,
Pedals turning, my heart yearning,
Where shall I go?
Steep broken road, I am slow.
My pulse is beating, soul freeing
Troubles fading, fears abating,
So, now I know.
At the crest, I catch my breath.
Stalling slightly, leaning lightly,
Then departing, fast descending,
This hill has depth!
Wheels beneath me never give.
Motion thrills me, wind instills me,
Road winding, my ride unbinding,
Out here I live.
Loved the poem…especually the last paragraph…definitely how I feel when I am out on the road cycling.
thank you for sharing

Cycle Lifestyle magazine always features great cycle poetry. http://www.cyclelifestyle.co.uk

Really beautiful poetry pamphlet- got one for my boyfriend, who loved it.
Full disclosure: I work for this tiny poetry press, but that doesn’t make the statement above any less true (bought the pamphlet long before I got the job).
